I have always watched what I ate and at one point in my life, even competed in fitness competitions which meant a ridiculously strict diet with tons of protein and not much else. After getting pregnant, I wanted to try to eat the best things for baby. I bought a book with the healthiest foods based on trimester and found it really useful. As time progressed though, cravings often got the better of me.
There are things that I always ate, that I just couldn’t stomach and still can’t, while there is a long list of other things I never used to eat or hadn’t eaten in YEARS, that seemed like the most wonderful tasting thing ever. Think it’s just part of being pregnant! I was thinking about it today and thought it would be funny to share.
One thing that I have always liked but can’t get enough of now? FRUIT! I realize that is general but seriously, any fruit will do. Top faves are raspberries (always have been), strawberries, nectarines, pears and kiwis. Also loving green grapes, blackberries and occasionally pineapple, green apples and cantaloupe.
Since my last check up I have been trying to get more protein and am eating a pile of greek yogurt and string cheese (which is actually really good!). I’ve never been a fan of cottage cheese but I’m trying to have that once in a while, mixed with vanilla yogurt or pudding and some cantaloupe. I love fruit smoothies made with yogurt, milk and any kind of frozen fruit – perfect for breakfast or lunch, along with some oatmeal.
Some of my faves - only while preggo: grilled cheese (much to DH’s delight since he loves them and will happily make me one!); eggo waffles – seriously! (L’eggo my preggo eggo??); mac and cheese (NEVER used to eat this); toasted English muffins (with raisins), topped with peanut butter (I can put pb on just about anything!); a lot of scrambled eggs! We used to eat chicken a few times every week but now, it’s the one thing I do not want. Also salt and vinegar chips used to be my junk food go-to, but I haven’t wanted them while pregnant.
Hopefully I’m getting enough of the right things. I expect Bluey will be a huge fan of fruit and likely cheese, just like mommy!
When it comes to fruit, I have the exact order of cravings!!!! Just to add watermelon!!! Mac and cheese too!!! Tons of yoghurt, cottage cheese, Edam cheese on crackers with apples. Scrambled eggs…yes totally
I also started drinking no lactose milk, oh so delicious.
oh yes, definitely watermelon! I bought a quarter recently and ate the whole thing in one sitting!!
Yup, I do the same
How fun! Sounds like you’ve been super healthy about everything! When my mom was pregnant with me she was obsessed with oranges. For my whole life I don’t mind them but I’d prefer anything else if available. It’s like I’ve already had my fill for my life! Can’t wait to see what Bluey likes!
